| Lance Armstrong, USA | Born :1971 in Plano, Texas. After a surprising victory in the World Champion in his early 20`s, his remarkable and courageous recovery from cancer to winner of the Tour de France has brought him great acclaim. His transformation from an strong, impetuous one day rider to a complete tour rider reflects his great determination. In 2004 he exceeded the Pantheon of 5 time Tour Winners - Anquetil, Merckx, Hinault, Indurain with his sixth consecutive overall victory and in 2005 achieved a seventh win - a feat likely to be unsurpassed. In 2009 he returned to the sport after a 3 year lay-off and his 3rd place in the 2009 Tour de France was a testimony to his drive and dedication. His career was eventually tarnished and besmirched by the revelation that his success had been the result of doping. All of his 7 Tour de France titles have been deleted from the records. |
