| Mark Cavendish, Great Britain | Born : 1985 in Douglas, Isle of Man. Cavendish is currently the world's best sprinter. His explosive final sprint in Stage races finishes off the disciplined work of his dedicated team. During the last few years he has achieved 23 stage victories in the Tour de France and a further 11 victories in the Giro. Perhaps the most significant performance was the win in his first One Day Classic - the 2009 Milan-San Remo. In 2011 he won the coveted Green Points Jersey after his third consecutive win on the Champs Elysees. The year ended with victory in the World Championship. In 2012, despite sacrificing his own defence of the Tour Green Jersey to assist Wiggins to an historic GC win, he was still able to achieve the greatest number of Tour stage wins for a sprinter and take an unprecedented 4th final stage win on the Champs Elysees. |
