Cycling Career Highlights
Philippe Gilbert, Belgium Born : 1982 in Verviers, Gilbert has become the complete 1 day Classic rider. With strong endurance allied to great power, he is able to attack on the climbs and sustain high pace over the final kilometres. Winning the two great Italian autumn Classics in 2009 and 2010 set a new benchmark and heralded the triple success in the 2011 Spring Classics. He went on to win the UCI World Tour. In 2012 his move to a new team coincided with a loss of form in the early part of the season but he finished with his usual panache winning two stages of the Vuelta and climaxing with a convincing World Championship title.
