| Ryan Lochte, USA | Born : 1984 in Canandaigua, New York. Lochte finally emerged from Michael Phelps' giant shadow at the 2009 World Championships. 4 gold medals and beating Phelps' 200 metres IM world record has given him the recognition he deserves. A world class backstroker and good freestyler he is an integral member of USA relay teams. He continued his dominance over Phelps at the 200 metre distance at the World Championships with gold medals in the Freestyle and Individual Medley he also added the 200 Backstroke gold 400 IM and 4 x 200 metre Freestyle relay - 5 golds in total. He broke his own world record in the 200 metres IM, becoming the first swimmer to break a record in the post-swimsuit era. |
